CamSemi named as ‘cleantech champion’ with latest award

14th December 2009 - CamSemi has been awarded this year’s Carbon Trust Innovation Award in the buildings category, in recognition of its innovative power management ICs and their potential to cut the energy consumed within buildings.

Dr Garry Staunton, technology director at the Carbon Trust, said: "The buildings category of this year's awards was one of the broadest and most competitive of the six award categories. Between them the finalists demonstrated the wide range of ways in which technology can help to reduce emissions from buildings. From construction materials and insulation, through to lighting and technology to reduce the energy consumed within buildings, the competition was fierce. CamSemi's award reflects the genuinely innovative nature of the technology it is developing and the significant potential it has to cut carbon emissions."

CamSemi was chosen as overall buildings category winner against three other finalists. The company’s current two major product families - C2470 and C2160 – were both highlighted for significantly improving the efficiency of power supplies and as a result, helping manage the rapidly growing electricity demand within buildings from phone systems and mobile phones, IT products, audio and video equipment.

The Carbon Trust Innovation Awards was founded in 2003 to recognise ‘cleantech champions’ and success stories from the UK’s rapidly growing low carbon economy. A panel of independent experts from government, science and business judge each entry for genuine innovation, carbon saving potential and commercial opportunity. This latest award is also CamSemi’s second high profile, cleantech industry endorsement this year: in February the company was named ‘University Spin-out of the Year’ in the New Energy Awards 2009.
